LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A La Crosse man convicted of letting his girlfriend deprive his 3-year-old daughter of water has been sentenced to three years of probation, but he'll serve eight years on a separate conviction for violating probation.
A La Crosse Tribune report (http://bit.ly/1cSEYsD ) says 23-year-old Dustin M. Barnes would face an additional three-year prison sentence if he violates probation.
Prosecutors say the girl lived with Barnes and his girlfriend. Relatives told investigators the girlfriend only allowed the child three drinks a day so she wouldn't wet her pants. The girl was also locked in her room with toys out of reach and forced to stand during time-outs that could last 90 minutes.
Barnes apologized to the judge Friday and said he was being selfish.
The girlfriend also faces felony child abuse charges.
