MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A northwestern Wisconsin prosecutor is joining the criticism of a Wisconsin state representative over his comments related to a sexual assault case.

Republican Rep. Roger Rivard of Rice Lake has lost support of some Republican party leaders about his comments that "some girls rape easy." He told the Chetek Alert newspaper in December that his father told him that as a way to warn him that a woman could agree to sex but then later claim it wasn't consensual.

Barron County District Attorney Angela Beranek prosecuted the case involving two high school students. The Democratic prosecutor issued a statement Monday saying the case involved a forceful sex act against the will of the victim.

A message left Tuesday at Rivard's Madison office was not immediately returned.

Freshman Rep. Roger Rivard of Rice Lake told the Chetek Alert newspaper in December that his father told him that as a way to warn him that a woman could agree to sex but then later claim it wasn't consensual.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/QWUARc) that the 10-month old comments are being revived as Rivard seeks re-election against Democrat Stephen Smith.

Rivard made the comments when he was discussing the case of a 17-year-old high school senior who was charged with sexual assault for having sex with an underage girl in the school's band room.
