Richland Center --- It was an emotional send-off--for dozens of soldiers Thursday.
The Wisconsin National Guard's 829th Engineer Company is being deployed to Afghanistan.
Family members, close friends, and veterans all had the chance to bid farewell at a ceremony inside Richland Center High School.
Members of the unit being deployed say it's hard to say goodbye especially for a year.
"To know that you're not going to have that physical touch and feeling to be able to support your family, and not know exactly what's going on or if everything's okay, it can be a little jolting," said Sgt. Ashley Pulvermacher.
The group that's leaving will be stationed in Texas, before going overseas. They're all part of a deconstruction team that will be tearing down items built for the war.
