With Troopers at Protests, Drivers Caught Break

Posted Sunday, March 20, 2011 --- 3:55 p.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- It seems speedy drivers in Wisconsin caught a break while state troopers were monitoring union rallies at the Capitol.

Records analyzed by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show that while the protests were going on in Madison, state troopers wrote about half as many tickets and warnings for speeding and other violations when compared with the same three-week period last year.

State Patrol Maj. Darren Price says there were several reasons for the drop. But he says a key reason was that that 85 troopers were assigned to Capitol security each day. He says during one shift, 187 troopers were working there.

Records show troopers wrote 9,324 tickets and warnings in the three weeks starting Feb. 14, compared with 19,713 written during that same period in 2010.

Ok aaron where have you been??? "IT'S NOT ABOUT THE PAY IT'S ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS"! Everyone has accepted the concessions it's not about that...you really need to get out from under the rock you are living under. And take home less money like everyone else, huh? People working for the unions aren't making a whole lot of money to begin with. You really need to do some homework before you start spouting out stuff that makes no sense. This will all affect you you wait and see. Some people are really ignorant.

i know plenty off people who work state jobs and get paid very well and i also know some who dont...but i did take a pay cut of 15% over the last two years so dont tell me to take home less money i did and still had to pay into my 401k with out my employeer matching, health ins with co pays and deductible of 3000 grand, and on top of that the state workers benefits and most of there healthcare and they dont even have to pay a deductible or co pay....give me a break...and i have done my homework its about the money. they tried saying it was bout the kids and workers rights but CB is not a workers rights and if it was for the kids they wouldnt of been lying to protest and bringing the kids downtown and canceling schools....so maybe you should do your homework

Thanks again Scott Walker. Because you tried ramming a bill through illegally, citizens weren't protected across the state and now the state even lost revenue. Walker will blame this on the protestors who were legally exercising their rights. Had he gone about this legally and without rushing, this whole incident would have never happened.

Right on. The GOP rulebook is apparently full of under-handed tactics.
