Dane Co. Sheriff's officials say a 19-year-old man jumped into a pond and saved a father and daughter from a submerged car.
Deputies say a dump truck forced the family's car off the road Thursday night shortly before 10:00. It rolled and landed upside down in a pond off State Highway 19 near I-39 in the town of Burke.
15-year-old Alissa Gundrum was driving the car, with her 43-year-old father Ronald Gundrum as the passenger. They are from Waunakee.
The dump truck left the scene. The 19-year-old witness jumped into the pond and pulled the Gundrums from the car. The father and daughter were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Deputies found the dump truck and the driver, 28-year-old Mark Klitzman of Madison, at a nearby quarry. He was cited for hit and run causing injury and unsafe lane deviation.
The WI State Patrol Inspector also responded and put the dump truck out of service for axle and brake issues.
