UPDATE: Woman Dead After Janesville Crash; Man Arrested

Press Release from the Janesville Police Department:

This is an updated press release for the traffic crash on Afton Rd/STH 11. On 03-03-2013 at 03:58 PM Janesville Patrol Officers responded a fatal traffic crash. The initial investigation shows a vehicle operated by Bruce R. Hohenstein 54, of Janesville was travelling north on Afton Rd and crossed the center line on the bridge striking head on a southbound vehicle operated by Amy K. Johnson 33, of Fitchburg. Johnson was killed during the crash. A passenger in Johnson’s vehicle, Paige N. Morfey 20, of Janesville sustained critical injuries and is in stable condition. Probable cause was developed during the investigation and Bruce R. Hohenstein was arrested for the following charges;

Information from the Janesville Police Department:

On Sunday at 03:58 PM Janesville Patrol Officers responded to what was initially reported as an injury traffic accident involving two vehicles on Afton Rd at STH 11. Afton Rd was shut down for over six hours.

It was determined the accident was a head on collision on the Afton Rd bridge over STH 11. The operator in one of the vehicle’s involved was a fifty-five year old male, who sustained critical injuries. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to Mercy Hospital, and is in stable condition.

The other vehicle involved had two occupants. In it was a twenty year old female front seat passenger, who sustained critical injuries. She was transported to Mercy Hospital, and is in stable condition. The operator of this same vehicle sustained fatal injuries, and was found deceased upon arrival. Police say it was a woman in her 30's.

Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to assist in the traffic accident investigation. The names and information of person’s involved in this accident are not being released at this time pending additional investigation into the matter, and family notification of death. Preliminary information gained during the investigation has indicated alcohol is a factor in the accident. Additional information will be released at a later time.
