An investigation is underway in Sauk County into the death of a 66-year-old volunteer who slipped and fell underneath a train at Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom.

The train started moving as she fell, according to initial reports from the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.

The Sauk County coroner told NBC15 the woman's autopsy has been completed but findings have not been released. Her name also has not been released by the Sheriff's Office.

Jane Vorass, of Anitgo, and her family had been on vacation in the Madison area for a week and visiting the railway museum was their last stop. Vorass said it had been raining at the museum, and as they left, they saw multiple Sheriff's Office vehicles arriving.

It wasn't until this morning when Vorass found out what happened.

"My family's hearts go out to the woman, her family, and every who was there yesterday and the people who work there," Vorass said.

"The men who were on our train, they were very professional and they were very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about how the trains work. They were cautious to make sure safety was their top priority, and I can't imagine what they're all feeling to know that another volunteer of theirs lost their life," she said.
