Wounded Wis. Policeman to Attend State of Union

Posted Tuesday, February 12, 2013 --- 12:06 p.m.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A police lieutenant wounded last summer during a deadly mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., is among two dozen guests the White House has invited to sit with the first lady during President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

Other guests were chosen to represent wounded warriors, health care professionals, business and education. Among the educators is a teacher from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., scene of another mass shooting in December that claimed 20 children and six adults.

Oak Creek Police Lt. Brian Murphy was shot multiple times by a gunman who killed six worshippers in Wisconsin before taking his own life.

Guests invited to the annual address often have ties to issues or proposals the president will highlight during the speech.
