Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type: Intoxicated Driver

Incident Date: 10/04/2012 - 1:57 AM

Address: 2500 block West Beltline Highway

Arrested: Dalivanh Detthongthip, age 34, Cross Plains
The suspect was arrested for 2nd Degree Reckless Endangerment, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence - 3rd offense, Driving Wrong Way on Divided Highway, Failure to Obey Officer's Signal and Reckless Driving.

Details: Madison Police responded to a highly dangerous situation early this morning as an intoxicated driver sped the wrong way on the W. Beltline Highway. As an officer caught up with her, she refused to pull over, and the officer feared there could be a "high-speed collision that would likely result in death." A number of concerned citizens had called the driver in after spotting her, operating at a high rate of speed, going eastbound in the westbound lanes near Highway 12's intersection with University Ave.

The initial officer, running red lights and siren, used his squad car spotlight, moving it back and forth at the driver's windshield with hopes of getting her to stop. As she sped past the officer, he did a u-turn and got behind her. She slowed down, but still did not stop, as oncoming drivers were forced to make evasive maneuvers to avoid a head-on crash.

The pursuing officer coordinated a quick response with other responding units and a second officer tossed spike strips into the path of the drunken driver’s SUV near Seminole Highway. The tire deflation device did its job and the suspect soon came to a stop. She was arrested on tentative charges listed above, including a 3rd offense for drunken driving.
