GOP Leaders Favor Lower Income Tax Rates

Posted Thursday, January 3, 2013 -- 7:50 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The new Wisconsin Assembly leader says Republicans plan to push for a reduction in the state income tax during the 2013 legislative session.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says the GOP favors a cut in the tax rate for individuals and families earning between $20,000 and $200,000 a year. Voss tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the state's tax system is too complex and that too many tax credits have been created. He says Republicans want to eliminate some tax credits for business sectors that don't appear to be generating the intended economic boost.

Vos officially begins his leadership of the 99-member Assembly when the legislative session begins Monday.
