Everybody loses a friend sometime in life -- but Kevin Berk, a physics student at UW Madison, never thought it would be quite so soon.

"My stomach just sank to my feet, I mean I was just in shock," Berk said.

Andrew Boldt of West Bend was shot and killed in a Purdue University engineering lab on Tuesday.

Both Andrew and Kevin are graduates of Marquette University High School in Milwaukee. There, Kevin says they were close friends.

"We just got along really well," Berk said, adding that the two had many of the same hobbies and interests.

Berk also said that Andrew was destined to become an engineer. "He was huge into robotics, he was an electrical engineer, and he was huge into computing," he said.

"This is a guy who knows what he's doing; he has life figured out," Berk added about Andrew, better known to friends as "Drew".

Funeral services for Andrew have been set for next Tuesday at the St. Frances Cabrini Parish in West Bend.
