Many companies are looking for ways for their employees to work out together and stay healthy.

In this week's Hot Trends, NBC 15's Christine Bellport shows a company workout that may also help keep Madison streets safer.

More and more companies want their employees to be healthy and are actively seeking ways to make sure that happens, even when budgets are tight.

The Madison Police Department is in step with that trend-- setting up recruit workouts at Orange Shoe Gym in Fitchburg.

"They saw the opportunity to be able to bring the recruits over to our facility to have a more specific training program designed for them to enhance their health coming into the department," says Scott Michel with Orange Shoe Gym.

The class is a 6-month program, a high intensity workout for 90 minutes that uses body resistance instead of weights. Its a work-out that will train them to use these skills on the streets of Madison.

"Everything will be related to what their field requires, so they have good core conditioning across the board, good stabilizing, good power & reaction time and endurance."

These recruits are being trained with stability and medicine balls, teaching them balance. All of this training helps lower injuries they may get out in the field because their bodies are better able to react to the physical demands of their jobs.

"The Madison Police Department really did, they are really proactive with the health and safety of their incoming recruits and it is a great opportunity for everybody to see a great benefit."
