Send Wisconsin Legislator Files Non-Candidacy Papers Late

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin legislator running for Congress has turned in papers declaring she won't run for her old seat two days late.

Lawmakers had until the end of the day Friday to file papers with the state Government Accountability Board stating they won't seek re-election. Candidates seeking their seats have until June 1 to file nomination papers.

Rep. Kelda Helen Roys, a Madison Democrat running for Congress, turned her paperwork in on Monday. Since she was two days late, anyone still considering a run for her seat now has until June 4 to file nomination papers.

Republican lawmakers changed the boundaries of Roys' district to include portions of Sauk and Columbia counties. Baraboo Republican Scott Frostman and state Rep. Fred Clark, D-Baraboo, have registered to run for the seat.
