UPDATED Monday, July 23, 2012 --- 10:45 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin native Carey Rottman will have another round of surgery Tuesday or Wednesday at an Aurora hospital in Colorado after surviving the mass shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater that left 12 dead and 58 injured.

Rottman's father, Dale, says doctors have told Carey it could be a year before he fully recuperates. Rottman, of Mequon, tells WTMJ radio (http://bit.ly/eM2bE) his son had just finished recovering from a torn ligament in his opposite leg suffered about a year ago while playing basketball.

The 27-year-old Carey was one of the patients who got a visit from a half dozen Denver Broncos players Sunday. He played football at Winona State in Minnesota and faced Bronco lineman Chris Kuper's North Dakota teams.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The father of a 27-year-old man shot in a Colorado movie theater says his son is walking with the help of a walker.

Carey Rottman was shot in the leg early Friday while watching a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Colorado. He's a Mequon native who studied business at Winona State in Minnesota.

His father Dale Rottman tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/QbzAt4) his son is doing well after surgery. He says he's expected to undergo a second surgery on his leg and a skin graft between Sunday and Tuesday. He could be released by Thursday.

He says his son will likely need physical therapy to recover, but the bullet did not damage his tendons or arteries.

His father says many friends have visited him.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Wisconsin native is recovering after the shooting rampage at a Denver area movie theater showing the new Batman movie.

Twenty-seven-year-old Carey Rottman and his friend were wounded by the gunman who killed 12 people and wounded nearly 60 others.

Rottman posted on his Facebook page from a hospital emergency room that he was "Shot in the leg at Batman." The 27-year-old Mequon native asked, "Where is he when you need him. Please pray for everyone here."

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Rottman's friend was shot twice, but was recovering.

A 15-year-old Plymouth girl was in an adjacent theater when the gunman began shooting.

Katie Trakel was not hurt but tells The Sheboygan Press a stray bullet went through the wall and hit one of her friends in the arm.
