Beloit, WI- The Beloit Snappers broke their four game losing streak, taking game one 4-3 against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field.
The Beloit Snappers struck first in the bottom of the first scoring two runs. Nate Roberts led off the ballgame with a walk, and Miguel Sano reached on a single. Both Roberts and Sano scored on an overthrow by Kernels’ catcher, Abel Baker on a ground out by Steven Liddle.
The Kernels got on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single from Abel Baker, bringing the score to 2-1.
The Kernels picked up another two runs in the top of the third with an RBI triple for Alex Yarbrough scoring Eric Stamets, who hit a leadoff single. The Kernels scored again on a sac fly from Andy Workman scoring Yarbrough, giving the Kernels a 3-2 lead.
Cedar Rapid’s Carmine Giardina came in to relieve starter, Michael Johnson in the bottom of the fifth. Johnson lasted four innings, allowing one hit and two runs, while striking out six.
The Snappers’ starter Matt Summers went five and two thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs, all earned, while striking out seven. Tyler Jones came in to relieve Summers in the top of the sixth.
Snappers tied it up 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, picking up their second hit of the game, an RBI double from first baseman, Steven Liddle, scoring Sano who walked.
Miguel Sano ripped a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, his league leading 18th of the season, putting the Snappers ahead 4-3.
Jones was replaced by Corey Williams, who closed out the game in the ninth. Jones went two and one third innings, allowing only three hits and no runs, while striking out three. Jones picked up his first win of the season, while Williams recorded his 11th save.
The Snappers are back at it tomorrow night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels with first pitch set for 7:00 PM.
