Trip and fall injuries account for 40 percent of school injuries.
Playgrounds account for 25 percent.
Meriter Pediatrician Dr. Viren Bavishi says it's important to talk to your kids about following the rules and making sure they're engaged in age appropriate equipment.
Dr. Bavishi also says to make sure safety protocols are followed while playing sports.
"We want to make sure that the kids are wearing the proper safety equipment so if you're playing football wear a helmet making sure your gym shoes are tied tied up the shoelaces because those are very easy avoidable injuries and just making sure that kids can still have fun but just keep safety in mind," says Dr. Bavishi.
Of course, kids will be kids and injuries will even occur outside the school setting.
