September is National Literacy Month!
And Half Price Books is encouraging you to read with your kids!
Studies have found that kids who read with their parents are better readers and also perform better in school.
Reading aloud to kids can also help them develop their vocabulary skills.
"If you are a parent and you know what a small child who can't express themselves is like it's wonderful when they can start speaking to you when their vocabulary grows and they can tell you their needs and their wants".
Half Price Books District Manager Joe Desch says some kids see reading as a burden.
But he says reading with parents helps them to start to see reading as something other than a chore.
