The skill of handwriting is fundamental to a child's education. That's why Meriter Hospital offers a workshop on handwriting, focusing on the areas that are building blocks for successful handwriting.

Kids taking the class do activities like tug of war, playing cards and push ups. Those activities help improve the skills needed to effectively write, according to Meriter Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Piper Bacskai.

"Visual motor, visual tracking, hand strengthening, upper extremity control and stability a lot of strengthening with the arms and trying to make all of them fun," says Bacskai.

A class for 2nd and 3rd graders recently started. One for 4th and 5th graders will start on October 12th and if there's enough interest, another class will be held for 2nd and 3rd graders.
