THAT'S THE WORD ON OUR COUNTRY'S SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM.
A U-S-D-A SPONSORED STUDY OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM FINDS ITS MEALS ARE LACKING IN SOME KEY AREAS OF NUTRITION.
THE PROGRAM PROVIDES LOW-COST OR FREE MEALS FOR MORE THAN 30-MILLION CHILDREN.
THE MAJORITY OF THE MEALS MET THE MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR VITAMINS, CALCIUM AND PROTEIN.
BUT THE STUDY FOUND THEY'RE STILL WAY TOO HIGH IN SALT AND SATURATED FAT.
KIDS IN THE PROGRAM ARE NOT EATING ENOUGH FRUITS, VEGGIES AND WHOLE GRAINS, EITHER.
