So often the coldest months mean we're stuck inside. That's why the U.V. Foundation is trying to spread the word about vitamin D deficiency, especially in states like Wisconsin.
New research shows there are more negative health effects with the deficiency than previously thought.
It increases the risk of heart disease, Parkinson's disease, rickets and many types of cancer
But Vitamin D deficiency is also linked to things like fatigue, depression and aches and pains. Experts say about 60 percent of Americans are Vitamin D deficient.
The best cure is moderate sun exposure, but unfortunately, during the winter months it's nearly impossible to get that. Our answer this time of year is vitamin D supplements, oily fish and other fortified foods.
