Last year, you may remember the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended kids as young as eight should go on statins for high cholesterol if they meet certain criteria.
But it turns out after analyzing 12 to 17 year olds.... less than one percent qualified to go on the drugs.
Before turning to statins, most doctors say kids should work to lower their cholesterol by changing lifestyle habits.
And speaking of lifestyle habits, why not introduce your little ones to a Mediterranean diet?
It is super healthy, with plenty of fruit, veggies, fish, nuts and beans.
A recent analysis of a large, long-term research project on the topic found that those who most closely followed a Mediterranean diet cut their risk of dying from heart disease and stroke by nearly 40 percent!
