A new study shows that rapid weight gain during the first 6 months of life can increase the chances a child will be obese by age three!
This came from a new study in the Journal of Pediatrics.
Sudden weight gain in early infancy was more important than how much a baby weighed at birth, the weight of the parents, or the weight gain by the mother during pregnancy.
The perception has been that a chubby baby and a baby that grows fast is healthier and all the baby fat will disappear.
The experts now say that's not always the case but are quick to point out that parents should not put chubby babies on any kind of diet!
Many doctors worry that parents feed their babies every time they cry instead of the possible need to be held or have a diaper change or change of scenery.
