In our family first - some really easy ways for you and your kids to be environmentally friendly - from Cosmo magazine of all places.
And these ideas go against some of the things most of us think are helping out!
The first one is a bath versus a shower. Most of us bathe our young kids - and have been told a bath is better than shower for saving water.
The truth is - a five minute long shower is a heck of a lot better than a bath and you can challenge your kids, young and old alike, to see who can take a faster one.
Bribery is always helpful too.
Another recommendation that really surprised me was to focus on finding organic and/or pesticide free produce.
Many people purchase locally, like at our awesome farmer's market, but if that produce was grown with fertilizers and pesticides, it could be almost as environmentally unfriendly as something from half way across the country that's organic.
Luckily, we have plenty of both here in Madison.
Another idea that's easy to do with your kids - the older ones - involves appliances.
Most people think turning off appliances makes a huge difference, but it's best to unplug them.
According to the US Department of Energy, 75% of the electricity used to power home electronics and appliances is consumed when devices are off.
