Family First: Fertility

Posted: Friday, March 19, 2010 --- 2:19 a.m.

In today's Family First, more and more couples are choosing to have kids later in life, which means more and more are struggling with fertility.

We recently did a story on acupuncture and how it has made a huge difference and thanks to "conceive" magazine, there are some other very simple, free things you can do.

First, check out the ingredients in your beauty products.

Try to eliminate lipsticks, perfumes and nail polishes with phthalates because they can interfere with your reproductive hormones.

The second one on the list is eating ice cream!

Research has found that women who eat full-fat dairy products have a lower rate of ovulatory infertility than those who stick with non-fat.

The hormones you want to consume in dairy products are in the fat because most cows are milked when they're pregnant!

Three is go to the dentist!!

Women who don't know they have gingivitis - which is common - can have trouble conceiving.

The infection can travel through the bloodstream and impact reproductive hormones.

Finally, it's on the list for every health story we do - but sleep is key.

80% of ovulation happens between midnight and 4 a.m.
