Family First: Lawn Mower Safety

Posted June 23, 2010

As we break out the lawn mowers for summer chores, it’s important that parents use caution to prevent injuries in children.

Experts say kids younger than 12 should not operate any type of lawn mower. The age minimum for riding mowers should be 16, and children should never ride with adults as a passenger.

The lawn should be cleared of debris before mowing to prevent injuries caused by flying objects.

Experts also advise when buying a lawn mower, look for one with a mechanism that stops it from moving forward if the handle is released.
