MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A source has told The Associated Press that the Brewers are extremely close to a deal to acquire Indians ace C.C. Sabathia.

The person requested anonymity because the trade hasn't been finalized and there are still a few issues to work out.

Sabathia went 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA to win the AL Cy Young last season.

The big lefty is 6-8 this year with a 3.83 ERA for the Indians, but he didn't always get much run support. In 11 of his 18 starts, Cleveland has scored two runs or fewer for him.

To get Sabathia, the Brewers will have to give up three minor league players, including top prospect Matt LaPorta.

LaPorta was Milwaukee's top draft pick last year. He hit .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games at Double-A Huntsville.
