Klang was the father of three children.
Today, his wife Susan released the following statement:
"Our family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from the community."
A spokesperson for UW Hospital says some 40 family members and friends were gathered at the hospital when Klang died during surgery around three o'clock this afternoon.
The sadness surrounding the news of Klang's death reaches much farther than the boundaries of rural Cazenovia.
Governor Jim Doyle released a statement late this afternoon saying quote -"This is a sad day for Wisconsin. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the dedicated educator who has been lost today. He will not be forgotten. The state will do everything we can to support the students and staff at Weston High School and the entire community that has been affected."
Doyle called Klang a hero for his ability to partially disarm the suspect before anyone else was injured.
