An important crime alert for moped owners - Madison police say they're seeing a huge jump in the number of stolen two wheelers.

Between 20 and 30 of the scooters have been stolen from downtown Madison.

Police are urging students to lock their mopeds to something secure, because if their scooter disappears, they may not get it back.

Mike Hanson of the Madison Police Department says, "We're just really strongly advising people that they need to secure them better, because frankly, we don't have the number of resources to devote to every single moped that's stolen in this city."

Police urge moped users to run a lock through the wheels of their vehicle and find something secure to lock it to.
