Governor calls on schools to re-examine safety plans

Doyle made the comments at a school safety summit in Eau Claire on Monday.

About 100 teachers, administrators and school safety experts gathered for the summit at Eau Claire Memorial High School.

The summit was planned long before Principal John Klang was killed at Weston High School.

Doyle says schools must be ``hyper-vigilant'' about safety and re-examine their plans developed after the Columbine school shooting in Colorado seven years ago.

The governor says he'll assess whether more funding is needed for schools to work on their safety plans.

The director of the Center for Emergency Health and Safety in Schools, Mary Jean Erschen, says finding the resources and time to implement the plans are big hurdles schools face.

The center is a grant-funded entity created 2002 and works with schools across the state.
