It might not happen tomorrow, but soon enough, you'll be dealing with these conditions on your way into work.
"We'll have the plows on, fully fueled up," said Jerry Mandli, Dane county highway department, "the guys will be notified and be ready to go in case they get the call."
Just in case the weather guys are wrong ... which we all know almost never happens ... and the forecasted flurries for this week turn into a blizzard, highway department officials say they're ready to go.
"Keeping the roads safe, keeping our workers safe, keeping the roads passable for people is a huge priority," said Mandli.
Highway workers were busy turning the wrenches on Wednesday to make sure the Dane county snow plows are ready for anything.
But while snow-free streets are a big concern for most of us, for one group of Madisonians, traffic jams would be a welcome relief.
"People don't realize it, but there will actually be people sleeping outside tonight," said Major Paul Moore, Salvation Army.
Moore says this is their busiest time of year at the shelters.
On a typical fall night, Moore says they'll have between 50 and 60 families waiting for a place to sleep.
And when the temperatures drop below freezing, that can become a deadly situation for those people.
"What goes through our mind first are children," said Moore. "Adults, they make decisions, sometimes they have to live with them, but children don't necessarily make those decisions."
Moore says he wants everyone to keep an eye open for people who might be homeless in their neighborhood.
He says those people don't always know where to go for help.
If you see anyone in that situation, Moore says you shouldn't hesitate to casually mention places like the Salvation Army.
