High school students in Janesville might notice a more visible police presence.

Police revisited the issue of school security after hearing of a foiled attack plan in Green Bay.

Janesville Police say it looks like their strategy is working.

Craig High School already has a security camera outside of its entrance as well as a sign-in sheet inside for visitors.

On Monday, an officer showed up in uniform. School liaison officers used to wear civilian clothing at Janesville's two high schools.

The district has six officers patrolling its schools. Other officers who do reports in their patrol cars now will try to do them in the area of schools.
However, Deputy Chief David Moore says perhaps the most effective prevention tool is an investigative mindset among officers, staff and students. He says a study by the Secret Service backs up the idea. "What they found was that in the very high percentage of shootings, potential shootings, the suspects or kids talked about the attacks before they did the attacks, and we feel our best effort is to get that intelligence, info on the kids, let us investigate and avoid the attack and tragedy," he says.

He also says police arrested 19-year-old Bryan Denio, a former Craig student on Friday. Police say a current Craig student went to a staff member, saying Denio planned to come to Craig on Halloween to shoot students. Police locked down the school. Denio was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Meantime, police say they also will revisit the training for handling a school attack. It's called Rapid Response to an Active Shooter, which is a quick way to enter a school and find the suspect.
