Members of Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton broke ground Sunday at the site of their new building at the corner of Skyline and Highway B, north of the city.
The congregation's former downtown building, which had stood since 1874, burned in August of last year.
The church sold the land to Stoughton Hospital while members got to work to plan for a new building on ten acres.
"I'd say it's no less than 150 people who've really stepped in and done special things by serving on committees. We've inventoried and asked the whole congregation for help, some 1,400 people of which we've probably weighed in 700 different voices," says Pastor Scott Geister-Jones.
The Pastor says members have been worshipping in space at a nearby nursing home.
He hopes the new church is ready in about eight months.
