24-year-old Darrell McCann of Madison was found dead early Sunday morning at a downtown Madison hotell.
Police don't suspect foul play and the coroner says the death appears to be an accidental drowning.
Workers at the Doubletree Hotel on Johnson street found McCann in the hotel's pool.
Police officer Carlos Valentin says he had been drinking in a guest's hotel room Saturday night and those guests were not here for Freakfest on State street.
"They're two unrelated things. If we had a bank robbery this weekend, would it be related to Freakfest just because the bank could have been located in the downtown area when the event was about to happen?"
Valentin says the couple McCann was with Saturday night were in town visiting a relative; they had met McCann for the first time earlier that day.
