Investigators hope a $100,000 reward will provide details on the disappearance of a missing Fitchburg man. The reward was posted as part of a nationwide effort to find twenty missing men and women who are not getting national attention.
27-year-old Amos Mortier vanished on November 8th, 2004 after attending class at MATC. Since then, his family has been updating a website to keep the search for their son alive.
Fitchburg Police Lieutenant Todd Stetzer is pleased that a new $100,000 reward has been posted for information in the case, but says as each month passes, so does hope that Amos will return alive.
"There's a strong indication that there was drugs involved in Amos' disappearance," says Stetzer. "We believe it's likely a homicide case, however we hold out the hope that it's not."
It has been almost two years since search dogs and crews combed the property surrounding Mortier's Lacy Road Home. This week, investigators say they are closer to figuring out what may have happened to him but still need more people to come forward with information.
The Philadelphia man who put up money for Mortier is also posting $100,000 rewards for nineteen other missing men and women during November. You may remember Joe Mammana first took interest in an American teen who went missing in Aruba.
"He did have involvement in the Natalee Holloway case," says Stetzer. "This drive is to bring attention to the people who have not recieved national attention."
The spotlight only shines through November 24th. That's when the reward expires. Still, Stetzer says the cash could help crack the case.
"There's people out there that we believe have significant information related to Amos' disappearance. Hopefully this might be the catalyst for them doing the right thing and coming forth, not just for the sake of doing the right thing, for the sake of Amos' family and mother."
Any tips that come into the Fitchburg Police Department between November 5th and November 24th will be forwarded to the Midwest Center for Missing Persons. They are handling the reward money.
