On this Veterans Day weekend, 40 servicemen and women in the state received top honors.

They were recognized Sunday at the 42nd annual Wisconsin Military Achievement Awards in the Capitol Rotunda.

Award recipients include soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guard members.

Staff Sergeant Paul Cusick is a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard from Madison. He says troops need our support now more than ever.

"I think it's very important with what's going on in the world right now that we show support for those National Guard and other members of the military that are on the front lines fighting overseas today."

This award is the only multi-branch awards program in the nation.

Since the program began in 1964, more than 2,150 men and women have received the award.
