Police say University of Minnesota student Chris Jenkins died after he was thrown off a bridge in downtown Minneapolis 4 years ago.
And they're apologizing to his family for first suspecting his death was a suicide or accident. Jenkins' parents formerly lived in the town of Rochester in Wisconsin's Racine County.
Homicide Sergeant Pete Jackson says a "suspect-slash-witness" is in custody in another state on an unrelated charge. Jackson says he also wants to talk to another eyewitness who's not in custody. But he declined to go into much detail about the case because the investigation is still under way.
Jenkins disappeared after leaving a bar on Halloween night 2002. His body was found in the Mississippi River nearly 4 months later, and police closed the case.
Jenkins' parents hugged police officials today and accepted their apology.
