A local elementary school is teaching parents almost as much as they are their students.

"Centro Familiar" opened at Madison's Sandburg elementary school today.

The new library center has books and other learning materials that will help families who don't speak English advance their children's education at home.

"When you have activities at home, that are ready made, that you can do with the kids, that parallel or pertain very much to what we're doing at school," said Mike Deignan, Sandburg principal. "It really helps with your parenting and family life and that connection at school."

Diegnan says "Centro Familiar" is open to any parent ... Latino or not ... and is a one-of-a-kind in the Madison school district.
