Print

New York City's health board is cutting the fat to become the first city to ban artificial trans fats at restaurants.

The ban passed by unanimous vote and the board has relaxed the deadline for compliance.

Restaurants will be barred from using most frying oils containing artificial trans fats by July First and will have to eliminate artificial trans fats from all of their foods by the same date in 2008.
