Programs aimed at keeping UW students safe are having a hard time keeping up with demand .
The recent attacks on or near campus are leading to an increase in calls for services like Safe Ride or Safe Walk and students who work for those programs have a message for those who might be abusing them.
They don't want people taking Safe Ride cabs home, just because those people want to enjoy a night out drinking.
UW Safe employees say this is usually a busy time for them, because of finals ... there are just more people out and about.
Add in the two sexual assaults that have taken place in the last two weeks and a number of other violent attacks, and the Safe resources have seen a huge spike in demand.
So they're asking that students and staff use the service only when they really need it.
"When you're in a situation where you have no other way out of, no friends to walk you home or pick you up safely," said Jacob Hahn, SAFE program coordinator, "no money in your pocket, no credit cards, no way to pay for a cab."
If you can't find a cab, Safe coordinator Jacob Hahn says you can always call for a Safe Walk.
Which might be a good idea, because Hahn says they won't be able to use extra money to pay for more Safe Rides, since there is no extra money.
Their funding is a fixed amount from student fees.
