Stoughton High School Student Dies In Car Crash, Four Injured

A Stoughton High School student is dead four others are seriously injured after a car crash Sunday.

18-year-old Laura Hougan of Cambridge died in the crash, which happened around 12:30 in the afternoon.

According to Dane county sheriff's deputies, Hougan was driving a westbound on the wrong side of Koshkonong Road at St. Hill Street in the town of Pleasant Springs.

Hougan's car hit a car traveling eastbound head on.

Hougan was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other girls were in the car; two of them were ejected.
Only one of them, the front seat passenger, was wearing a seatbelt.

All three were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other car, 42-year-old Jill Gluth of McFarland, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

All teenagers are students of Stoughton High School.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Grief counselors will be available at the school Monday morning.
