Deputy Hired to Patrol at Weston School

A retired Jefferson Police Chief is accepting a new role - to keep students and staff safe at Weston High School.

The district hired Mike Steinhorst to serve as a deputy to patrol the campus.

Former Chief Steinhorst was deputized for the position, meaning he'll be able to make arrests at the school.

The move comes 4 months after Weston School Principal John Klang was shot and killed at the school.

A federal grant is covering the cost of the deputy through the end of this school year.
