Monday, during a ceremony at the Overture Center, Dane county executive Kathleen Falk presented a posthumous award to former NBC-15 anchor, Mike McKinney.
Mike passed away in July after a long battle with colon cancer.
The award is for Mike's effortless community work, reflecting the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
His mother Barbara accepted the honor, and said Mike was committed to making a positive change in Madison.
"He was percise in what he wanted to be remembered for. Share your holidays food drive, HIV AIDS education and awareness through the the AIDS ride. This award, named after Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King, a humanitarian, a man Mike loved, admired and emulated all his life."
A scholarship fund has been set up in Mike's name to help students interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.
