Police say the man believed to be holed up and armed in a Fitchburg apartment has been arrested several miles away in Madison.
Authorities say the suspect was taken into custody without incident about 8:30 a.m. Thursday at an apartment on the city's southwest side. Police don't know how the man ended up there.
SWAT officers were called to the Fitchburg apartment building shortly after midnight on a report of a man with a handgun or some type of weapon. A woman who was in the apartment with the man got out safely.

The Madison Police Department arrested a man involved in a domestic disturbance Thursday morning in Fitchburg.
The situation began around midnight on the 3200 block of Chalet Garden Road in Fitchburg.
Police say a man and a woman were involved in a domestic incident involving weapons. The woman got out of the apartment unharmed and was cooperating with authorities. It is unclear how the woman got out of the apartment.
Around 8:30 Thursday morning, Madison Police located the suspect in an apartment on the 6700 block of Park Edge Drive in Madison. Madison Police set up a perimeter. At that second location, a female also exited the residence unharmed. After ordering the suspect to come out of the apartment, he eventually surrendered.
The name and age of the suspect is not known at this time. More details are forthcoming.

According to Fitchburg dispatch: Fitchburg Police Department are responding to a domestic disturbance involving weapons. No injuries have been reported. Portions of Chalet Gardens, Carling Rd, and Lovell Rd are closed.
