Green Bay charities get donation -- 25 years later

Posted Monday, November 26, 2012 -- 7:40 a.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Four Green Bay nonprofits have finally received more than $1.7 million in donations from a couple who died 25 years ago.

The funds came from Angus and Norma Beaton, who lived in the Green Bay area for many years. The couple left their savings to charity, but the donation was not to occur for 25 years in case Norma Beaton lived longer and needed the money.

Angus Beaton died at age 79 in 1987, and his wife died nine weeks later at age 81. However, the will was already in place.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports $685,000 was recently given to The Salvation Army of Brown County, and $342,000 each was distributed to the American Red Cross in Northeast Wisconsin, the Bay Area Humane Society and the YMCA.
