MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state has some tips to help children stay safe as they trick or treat on Halloween.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says children need to be reminded about how to stay safe as they walk and bike in the dark on Thursday collecting candy on Halloween.
The DOT says children should wear brightly colored or reflective costumes and accessories and carry a flashlight. Lights and reflectors are recommended for those riding a bike.
The DOT also says children should travel in groups to be more visible to drivers, stay on well-lit streets, never cut across yards or use alleys, never walk between parked cars and always wear a helmet when biking.
