APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- Two babies are safe following a seven-hour standoff with a gunman in Appleton.
Police arrested the 34-year-old man late Tuesday night after he threatened to kill himself during the standoff. Two 6-month-old children were in the house with the man.
Sgt. David Lund tells WLUK-TV the man eventually agreed to bring the children out of the house, then returned to the home. Lund says the man was carrying a long gun when he brought the babies outside.
Lund says the man surrendered about an hour and a-half later. Police say he's not the father of the children, who were returned safely to their parents.
