BROTHEL OWNER-ELECTION

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Think politics is a dirty business? Try telling that to brothel owner Lance Gilman. He's got a new job, as an elected member of the Storey County, Nevada, commission. Gilman owns the legal brothel the Mustang Ranch. He won 62 percent of the vote Tuesday. Gilman says his experience as a small-business owner will help while serving on the county commission.

LA COUNTY-PORN CONDOMS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Voters in L-A are saying yes to condoms. A ballot measure in L-A County passed this week that would require condom use in porno videos. But the adult film industry is vowing to fight the condom order in court. Porn producers say their audience doesn't want to see safe sex in explicit sex scenes. The ballot initiative was sponsored by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

MARIJUANA TOWN PUSHBACK

ARCATA, Calif. (AP) -- Folks in one California community hope to give a shock to pot growers -- with electric bills. Voters in Arcata overwhelmingly approved a stiff new tax on electricity. The idea is to pull the plug on large-scale indoor pot farms. The measure OK'd Tuesday would slap a 45 percent tax on power bills that are three times the normal household amount. Mayor Michael Winkler says if the growers don't scram, the power tax could go even higher.

DOG YOGA

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- It's the downward dog -- with your doggie. Maryland yoga instructor Kater Leatherman is offering doga -- that's yoga with a dog. But don't worry about trying to get your pooch into a cat position. Leatherman says it's the people who do the poses, with the canines acting more like weights. Leatherman tells the Capital of Annapolis the four-legged buddies get a good stretch and a massage in the process.

JETS-NOISE

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Turn up the volume. That what Jets coach Rex Ryan did in practice yesterday. The Jets travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks Sunday. Seattle's indoor CentryLink Field is one of loudest venues in all of sports. So the coach had the volume turned up to 11. The amps were at the max, pumping out everything from West Side Connection's "Gangsta Nation" to "Get Right" by Jennifer Lopez. Ryan says Seattle is "a hostile environment," where "the fans are over the top." And he means that as a compliment.

SNAKE SEIZURE

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- No snakes for you! At least not for a year. A Nebraska judge is ordering John Foss Junior not to have any of the reptiles for 12 months. Authorities say he had up to 30 illegal venomous snakes in his home. Officials found cobras, black mambas, vipers and rattlesnakes in aquariums in a bedroom. After pleading guilty, a judge sentenced Foss to probation and fined him 600 bucks. The Omaha World-Herald reports the snakes have been turned over to an area zoo.
