Thursday Morning Rock Music Headlines

"THE X FACTOR" VS. BASEBALL, AND BASEBALL WINS

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Last night's episode of "The X Factor" in which we find out who will compete in the live shows is in rain delay until next week. The Cardinals-Giants game had a three-and-a-half hour rain delay, which pushed into the two hours scheduled for "The X Factor." About half the episode aired on the East Coast: who made the teams for Britney Spears and L.A. Reid, and two contestants for Demi Lovato's team. Then "The Mindy Project" aired until the game resumed. The West Coast saw a repeat of last Wednesday's episode. Fox says it will air the entire two-hour episode on Tuesday.

"THE X FACTOR": WHO MADE IT SO FAR

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Rapper James Tanner told Britney Spears she looked pretty on "The X Factor." Then she axed him. Spears kept Beatrice Miller, Diamond White and Carly Rose Sonenclar -- who are all 13 years old -- and Arin Ray, who tried out last season, to go to the live competition. L.A. Reid chose all guys for his team: cowboy Tate Stevens, tattooed rock singers Vino Alan and David Correy, and powerhouse vocalist Jason Brock. Demi Lovato said yes to Jennel Garcia and Willie Jones, but news on the rest of her team - and Simon Cowell's team -- will have to wait until next week. Fox cut the episode short because of a rain delay in the baseball playoffs. The whole episode will run Tuesday.

IMAGINE DRAGONS MAKE PEOPLE LOOK UP

CHICAGO (AP) -- Imagine Dragons honed their craft by competing against gamblers. Guitarist Wayne Sermon says they started off in little lounge areas of casinos in their hometown of Las Vegas. Sermon says they had to come up with ways to make people stop looking at their slot machines and start watching the band. He says it was a good lesson in learning stage presence and onstage energy.

MIKE LOVE OPENS A ROUNDABOUT

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Mike Love of The Beach Boys dedicated a highway roundabout at Lake Tahoe yesterday. This happens to be the first roundabout at Lake Tahoe, and Love happens to be a longtime local resident. The roundabout is part of a project for increased safety and environmental friendliness.

STEVEN VAN ZANDT GETS AWARD

NEW YORK (AP) -- When Steven Van Zandt gets an award named after Clarence Clemons, it makes sense that Bruce Springsteen should present it to him. Springsteen gave Van Zandt the Big Man of the Year Award in New York Tuesday during a benefit for Little Kids Rock, a music education charity. Springsteen joked about Van Zandt's poor housekeeping skills when they were roommates, a charge Van Zandt claims with a smile is a lie. Darlene Love, Elvis Costello and Dion performed at the event. Van Zandt says music as a career is fun, but it requires a lot of work.

ELVIS, B.B. KING, JERRY LEE LEWIS SET FOR MEMPHIS MUSIC HALL OF FAME

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- You can't possibly have a Memphis Music Hall of Fame and not put Elvis Presley in. He's among the first 25 inductees, along with B.B. King, Three 6 Mafia, Al Green, Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. and the MGs, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Howlin' Wolf, The Staples Singers, ZZ Top and Sun Records founder Sam Phillips. The Memphis Daily News reports the first class will be inducted November 29 as part of the Memphis Rock n' Soul Museum.
