During the summer, adult softball leagues spring up all over our area. It's a summer tradition that many guys look forward to so they can blow off a little steam.
Hitting the diamond has always been a fun way to spend your summers as a kid. But as an adult, it's sometimes to easy to forget how important it is to stay active.
But these dad prove they still know how to get a little dirty while having a good time.
“Let's go Potter, start us out!”
It's a warm Thursday night in Sun Prairie and that signature baseball chatter fills the air.
“Hey, hey that a way! Attaboy potter!”
And these boys of summer are having a little fun.
“We're having a good time and blowing off some steam,” explained Josh Erickson.
The City of Sun Prairie Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department hosts all kinds of adult sports leagues.
“Playing a little softball with the boys!”
This team represents Eddie's Ale House in downtown Sun Prairie..
“Let's go Eddies, we're on camera!” said first baseman Ryan Lobenstein.
And tonight, the bats are hot.
“Attaboy bobby! Work it out, work it out, come on!”
After a long week at work, Thursday night is something they all look forward to.
“Just a night out with the guys, have a little fun, letting loose so it's a good time,” said Brian Waszczyk
“Hang out with each other and not have to sit at the office and work,” said Erickson. “It is a stress relief so it's a way for at the end of a long week to hang out with some friends and have a beer,”
Their families come along for the game too. As dad hits the field, the little ones watch on.
“It ends up being a great family experience every week,” said Erickson.
Spending time with family is important, but getting away, even for just an hour, can be just as vital.
“Sometimes family life can get a little hectic with two little ones running around so it's definitely a little break once in a while,” added Waszczyk.
This scene is played out on diamonds all over the country.
“It's kind of the great American experience,”
And these guys have no plans of hanging up the glove anytime soon.
“I've been doing this for about 20 years and I'd like to do it as long as I can,” said Erickson.
