A local student is going to the Super Bowl! On Friday, teachers surprised the eighth grader with two tickets to the big game.
Marshall Middle School in Janesville is very active in the NFL's “Fuel Up to Play 60” campaign. The program encourages kids to eat right and to get at least 60 minutes of exercise each day.
Now, one student is being rewarded for his hard work getting that message to his peers.
13-year-old Chase Glissendorf is about to get the surprise of a lifetime.
“Excuse me, Chase. Are you ready and prepared to go to the Super Bowl?” asks assistant principal Andre Bennett as he bursts into Glissendorf's classroom.
“What?!” Chase yells back.
“Are you ready and prepared to go to the Super Bowl?” Bennett asks again.
“I'm confused...I'm crying!” responds Glissendorf
“You're going to the Super Bowl, Chase!”
“Yeah!!” Chase screams as he throws his hands in the air.
Glissendorf just won two tickets and an all-expenses paid trip to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis!
“I feel like it's a dream. I don't think it's real,” said Chase.
He heads up Marshall Middle School's Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
“I basically tell the other students to eat healthy and be active,”
He's been dedicated to the program.
“Honestly, it's like his baby. We kind of gave it to him and he pushed this thing forward,” said Bennett.
And when assistant principal Bennett found out his school won the contest, he says sending Chase was the only logical choice.
“When we thought about what our program was all about, who has helped us push this program forward over the past three years, there was no other choice to make. Chase Glissendorf was our guy,”
“I was just so excited and happy and excited that Mr. Bennett picked me to go,” said
Chase helped put together a video for the NFL's ”Back to school, Back to Football” challenge. 70,000 schools were eligible and of the five videos posted, Marshall received the most votes and won the super trip.
“To go to the super bowl with my oldest son. I can't even put that in words,”
Steve Glissnedorf says his son is an excellent student and deserves this trip.
“I couldn't be more proud of my son,” he says as he hugs Chase.
Chase says he's just excited to spend some quality time with his dad.
“This is something me and my dad get to do. It's going to be wild, I can't wait,”
Steve Glissendorf was in Iraq for a year working as a contractor, so this trip will make up for a lot of lost family time.
Also, the Glissendorfs are big Packer fans and hope the team can meet them there in Indianapolis.
Assistant principal Andre Bennett is, unfortunately, a Bears fan.
